Minnesota Universal Background Check. What do you need to know?
Effective August 1st, 2023, Minnesota has implemented a new law that brings significant changes to the purchase and transfer of firearms. Under this law, individuals seeking to buy or receive a pistol or semiautomatic military-style assault weapon are required to apply for a permit to purchase or a permit to carry. The application process includes thorough background checks, and certain disqualifications are in place, such as being prohibited by law from possessing such weapons, posing a threat to oneself or the public, or being listed in the criminal gang investigative data system.
